All about Frankie

100 80 THINGS YOU MIGHT ALREADY KNOW ABOUT ME

..this list should reach 100... eventually...

1. I am from South Africa and I really like this country (in general) - but it's my homeland so my rose-tinted lenses are tinted with the pleasure of being part of this culture.

2. My family is of English origins but mostly we're South African, not Afrikaans, not African not Zulu not anything else culturally than Anglo-South African. We however are pretty partial to tea.

3. I have a big family - we're pretty close and pretty happy and pretty non-dysfunctional but I have some attention-seeking traits because of being one of 5 sibs.

4. I love cats - I do not love dogs. I have never owned a dog and I grew up loving and owning cats. I do not love it when your dog leaps up in my face to say hello. I have been known to be more enthusiastic in greeting someones cat than the person I am visiting.

5. I go through phases of food addictions where for months I cannot get enough of a particular flavour of a particular brand of food. I had a 8 month stint of Cadburys Mint Crisp as well as a long stint of Orange Juice. One day I just wake up and realise that the flavour isn't needed anymore. The current addiction? Egg mayonnaise.

6. I love sour sweets.

7. is my favourite number

8. The best steak I ever ate had a sauce on it made with cocoa. I have tried to replicate the cocoa+meat idea in the kitchen and failed - failed badly

9. I have a typing disorder characterised by "teh" all over the place. it irks me.

10. I like the word "irk" - it describes my mood very well.

11. I have mood swings... like the moon. It bothers me that I am completely irrationally emotional sometimes and that it is almost beyond my control. (too late to realise half way through setting fire to stuff that it wasn't a wise normal thing to do)

12. I like round factorisable numbers and I do not like prime numbers. I tend to round things off when typing in figures. Even when I adjust the volume on the TV the volume is at 10 or 12 or 16 or 20 or 21 or 24. TV volume 17 or 23 or 29 just doesn't feel right.

13. I think I am an artistic person but cannot produce works of art.

14. I love baking and cooking - It's like chemistry but with more scope for the imagination.

15. I hate having the same idea as some one else. Especially when I am trying to think laterally.

16. I was selected for a special after-school hours Gifted Child programme when I was 10, I consistently achieved second round in the Maths Olympiad throughout High School and I was the only person in my school to get into the second round of the Science Olympiad in Matric. I failed second year university Mathematics and got a passing grade on the dot in third year.

21. I really enjoy my job. It is my life goal to make sure that I enjoy my job.

22. I love to read. I used to read 3 books a week when I was younger (and had more time) My dream job has been to run a pokey friendly cosy little second hand book store and coffee shop. I am aware that I haven;t thought through whether I would enjoy this in reality.

23. I am a literary snob but secretly I love paperback romances. But snobbishly I prefer the ones with more story line than just falling in love.

24. In life, with love, I am a real-ist. I don't believe you can fall in Love-love in a few months. Easy come, easy go.

25. I have a deep strong heartfelt platonic love for some of my friends. I would drop anything and sprint if they had a problem.

26. I suspect some of the friends in 25 have no idea how I feel about them.

27. It makes me really happy that some of the friends in 25 would do the same for me.

28. Shredding paper gives me a thrill - it's the senseless destruction of something in a safe and controlled manner.
29. I fidget when I am stressed and thinking hard. The speed of the fidgeting matches the speed of the thinking.

30. I talk to myself.

31. I can make a pretty good Beef Stroganoff and Spaghetti Cabonara.

32. Secretly I enjoy cheap sweet wine. I cover it up with some wine snobbery and have developed a taste for blends like Merlot-Rose and Pinotage-Rose.

33.  The one thing I hate about my face is my eyebrows. I haven't the patience or tolerance to garden them myself so they grow wild. And wild they do grow.

34. I hate people that are pushy and selfish. and I get a little weird about people I perceive to be pushy and selfish... as in fantasising about giving them a piece of my mind at the top of my voice in front of a crowd.

35. I think I am a loyal friend however I am not above letting communication lapse between myself and people whose friendship is no longer desirable.

37. I have wanted to live by myself since I was 14 years old. (too much tv-sitcoms... I think)

38. I did something very disobedient when I was 16 that I have never told my parents about. (not what you think). and to this day I regret that I didn't do the right thing. An opportunity missed and never to come by again.

39. I had a diary when I was younger that I wrote in with my own made up secret-code alphabet.

40. I don't like game drives, milk tart or ice skating.

41. I am likely to repeat myself on this list - I don't always remember stuff so well.

42. I am a very sad dancer. I get a little nervous when dancing in company and become all elbows and knees and hip swings.

43. I love dancing to good music behind closed doors -sprained ankles and bruises are often the eventual result.

44. I had a best friend when I was 5 or 6 years old. She moved to the other side of the country when we were 8-ish and became a burlesque dancer. When I found out I was astonished but not surprised.

45. I don't give out compliments easily. In fact I find people that are too complimentary weird and false. If I say your hair looks great, I really mean it.

46. I don't have many female friends. I picked up this weird notion at high school that girls are meant to be competitive and I find it difficult to be friends with women without resenting the parts of them that are better than me.

47. I should blog about 46.

47. Some of my best spent evenings in this past year have been spent on my own at a mall. I wander about window shopping and in CD shops and book stores and treat myself to coffee and let my brain run willy-nilly around my head.

48. I had a crush on a boy that was a saxophone player when I was 11 years old. He found out, thought I was weird and moved to a boarding school. (not because of me)

49. I had a crush on a boy in my class when I was 9 years old only because his runny nose rash cleared up on day and he was vaguely good looking in the right light. I left a packet of sweets and a love note on his school desk on the last day of the year.

50. I had a crush on the boy I sat next to in class when I was 12 years old. Then he cut his hair and I realised that what I had a crush on was only his Backstreet-Boys-esque hair - that was now gone. By then he had figured me out and spent the rest of the year using only the far corner of the desk.

51. The year I would go back to if I could would be the year I was 17. I under appreciated how awesome I was at 17. I am still reaping the benefits of the friends and experiences I had when I was 17.

52. I am an undercover secret anime and manga enthusiast. Please don't ask me/tell me what the difference is because I have no pleasure in participating in that argument. I am undercover because I am tired of being hit on by boys who love anime and dragons and WoW and wolves and swords.

53. I believe Jesus Christ redeemed my sins on the cross at Calvary and I don't particularly care if you think I am brainwashed by too much Sunday School.

54. I believe there is a difference between faith and Religion.

55. I believe the most annoying Religious people are the atheists. (Yes, I am convinced Atheism is a religion)

56. I do not believe I am a good driver. I am a better driver than a lot of people.

57. I love green eyeliner and blue mascara.

58. My eyes are different colours but the difference is not easy to see. One eye is bluer and the other is greener.

59. I am a little bit of a grammar and spelling Nazi. I am trying to not be a pronunciation Nazi.

60. I am not sure if I will ever have children. I am dead scared that by the time the maternal instinct section of my head becomes alive that it will be too late.

61. I am crazy snap happy with cameras. I will snap pictures of scenery and flowers and clouds and mountains until your camera memory is full.

62. I am a little bit of a thrill seeker. I have no fear of heights. I find girls that get weepy when doing adventure activities at heights to be lame and sad and quite silly.

64. I dream the same dream over and over when I am stressed. It is so obscure that it is beyond describing with words. (Imagine people becoming thinner and thinner in the same way that a hard boiled sweet dissolves in your mouth)

65. I totally did not notice that I skipped 63.

66. Is the number of my desk at the office. I can't decide if I like the number 66 or not - it is perfectly factorisable but is only one "6" from a superstitious number.

67. I am not particularly superstitious. I don't read astrology, I don't forward chain letters and I have no qualms related to ladders, salt, black cats or umbrellas. I do find some numbers a little weird. (See 12.)

68. I am not much a fan of any sports. I do have an appreciation of figure skating and gymnastics... especially mens gymnastics :)

69. I usually try to keep my irrational crazy woman emotions under control with my practical engineering mind. I do suffer however frequently from envy and jealousy for obscure reasons.

70. My favourite actors are Adrien Brody, Kevin Spacey and John Hannah. Neither Kevin nor John are particularly good looking but are talented actors and John Hannah speaks funny has a great accent. Adrien Brody however - hmm-mmm-mmm-mmm.

71. I watch a lot of movies. I enjoy arty/indie/foreign language movies in particular. I enjoy best of all sneaking off to a movie midweek on my own. It's my secret escape from life.

72. I have been called a tease and a flirt and mens-lady (opposite of a ladies man) by many friends and disappointed male-chums. I seem to get on better with guys than girls. I am, however, in no way, a loose woman... just a friendly one.

73. despite the naming of this blog, I don't really like being called Frankie... It brings up sad memories of the person who gave me the nickname in the first place.

74. is the number of the bus I rode home every week day for 11 years of high school and varsity. My bus riding days are mostly happy memories of doing anythign but driving in traffic. I have some great friends I met on the bus and at the bus stop.

75. percent is the lowest acceptable mark I would accept with pride for Maths, Science and Computer Science at High School. I was a proper nerd. My friends would fight to sit next to me in Science so that they could copy from me (mostly illegally) in the daily 5 minute test.

76. I moved out of my parents house just before I turned 25. it wasn't done out of necessity and it wasn't done out of dire need. I simply wanted to be independent and look after myself. The one thing I never expected was how much time it takes to keep a house clean and livable. My free time has almost completely vanished.

77. I ate mostly bananas for fruit in the first few months after I moved into my own place. Now the smell of bananas just grosses me out completely.

78. I don't like seafood - it tastes too fishy. This may sound redundant and obvious.

79. ... but I make exceptions for salmon sushi because it is quite simply delicious... but not the sushi wrapped in too much fishy tasting seaweed. I am slowly learning to enjoy other types of sushi.

80. I was once taken to a very fancy lunch with some friends friends. The kinda friends friends where it was very important that a good first impression was made with all parties. They took me to a restuarant where you go pick the fresh fish from a seafood buffetall arranged very nicely on ice chips and the selections are prepared into a variety of soups, starters, mains and desserts. I did not manage to make a good impression because I was green for most of the meal.

81. I enjoy several and many types of music. Mostly I only hate the kind that has no pattern and rhythm. When I drive, I have found that Classic FM makes me very happy.... except the opera... and the I Am On Speed And Esctasy-Piano playing... and the lady that advertises the Wine of teh Week slot - her voice gives me the heebie-jeebies.
